Hope Bridge Sterilization Campaign in Numbers

The issue of homeless dogs and cats is a pressing concern in El Salvador, impacting not only the animals themselves but also local communities. To address this problem, a Sterilization Center for Homeless Dogs and Cats is being established in Nahuizalco, Sonsonate. This innovative program aims to provide spaying, identification, vaccinations, and pre/post-operative care to improve the lives of these vulnerable animals.

Controlling the Homeless Animal Population

Hope Bridge Central America has conducted free spaying and neutering campaigns since 2021. Free sterilization programs have been proven to effectively control the homeless animal population. By implementing a catch-neuter-identify-return approach with two weeks of pre-operative and post-operative care, our program seeks to reduce both the number of stray animals on the streets as well as their suffering.

Improving Quality of Life

Homeless dogs and cats face numerous challenges on a daily basis – exposure to abuse, disease, malnutrition, and emotional distress. The Sterilization Center will offer them a peaceful respite where they can receive necessary medical attention. In just 30 minutes, through a simple spay/neuter procedure, their health will significantly improve along with their happiness and overall quality of life.

Addressing Female Animals

Hope Bridge compassionate program places special emphasis on addressing female animals that often lack access to pre-operative care required prior to sterilization. Thousands of female animals roam El Salvador's streets without any protection or support system in place. By providing them with this opportunity for sterilization along with two weeks of dedicated caregiving before returning them back safely onto the streets they know as home; it offers hope for an improved future.

Breaking Cycles

One significant advantage of spaying female animals is breaking vicious cycles that perpetuate suffering among homeless dogs and cats. Females will no longer be chased by packs of males or forced to give birth on sidewalks while struggling with their own health. These procedures increase their chances of being adopted by loving families, thus providing them with the chance for a better life.
